On March 27, 2021, the world lost one of its most selfless, intelligent, and happiest human beings. Megan was taken from this world way too soon, at the young age of 23. Though we know she is looking down upon all of us, trying to crack a joke to keep us in good spirits, the world is now missing one of its brightest lights. Her smile was contagious, laugh infectious, and auora radiant.

Throughout her life, Megan was involved with many passions. Despite being diagnosed with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS), a rare congenital vascular disorder that afflicts just 1 in 100,000 people worldwide, she never used her condition as an excuse in any matter of life. Whether it was her love for the game of soccer, superb performance in the classroom, devotion to community organizations, or uplifting personality around friends and family, she constantly made the lives of those around her better. She was always more concerned with how others were doing, rather than focusing on herself. She was truly one of a kind.

Growing up in Freehold, NJ, Megan was involved with Freehold Soccer for over 13 years. At Freehold Township High School, not only was she a member of the varsity soccer and basketball teams, but she was heavily involved with and took leadership roles in student government as well as various other student organizations. After graduating as salutatorian from the FTHS class of 2016, Megan moved halfway across the country to attend Washington University in St. Louis.

At WashU, Megan continued her active engagement with the community. She was the Student Finance Director at the WashU Campus YMCA where she coached youth basketball and soccer. Additionally, through involvement with her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, Megan served as the Vice President of Administration and Philanthropy Chairman. In the latter role, she was responsible for organizing various philanthropic events and raised over $3,000 for the Arthritis Foundation. She was also a member of the Women’s Club Soccer team, where she served as treasurer. Despite this heavy campus involvement, Megan remained dedicated to her academics as she graduated with a double major in mathematics and statistics as well as finance. Upon graduating from WashU in 2020, Megan started her professional career at Cigna as part of the company’s highly selective Actuarial Executive Development Program.

As a result of Megan’s philanthropic spirit, our family is already in the process of starting a 501(c)3 Foundation where we will organize an endowment to be used to honor Megan’s legacy. Through financial gifts, the Megan Schulman Memorial Foundation plans to fulfill the philanthropic spirit of Megan through empowering organizations, students, and educators who carry out unwavering compassion for others, commitment to community involvement, and dedication to academic excellence.

While we work to finalize our 501(c)3 status through RespondLaw and the Shoreline Group at Morgan Stanley, who will be managing the endowment, the Graeme Preston Foundation for Life has offered to act as a fiscal sponsor in order to allow for tax-deductible donations to be collected at this time. We hope that you help us achieve our goal of carrying on Megan’s legacy through philanthropy by donating in any amount, large or small. 100% of the proceeds will be dedicated to and managed by the Megan Schulman Memorial Foundation.

Finally, we want to thank you immensely for the overwhelming outpour of love and support over this past week. We could not have made it through this extremely difficult time without you.
