Megan is a sweet, energetic 15 year old, born on Nov. 14, 2001. She has been fighting cancer since she was 10 years old. She was first diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) in August 2012. She underwent almost three years of treatment and in the middle of that, doctors discovered she has a genetic mutation. This puts her at a very high risk of other cancers. Chemotherapy was harder on Megan than on some children. She lost her hair a couple of times, and all of her joints collapsed. She had numerous surgeries, needle pokes, therapies, and so much more. Megan had a year and a half of treatment and worked hard to regain strength and get her life back to normal. Unfortunately in December 2016, she was diagnosed with a very deadly brain tumor called glioblastoma, stage 4. She is presently undergoing radiation in Memphis, TN, at St. Jude's Children's Hospital. She is handling radiation well, and has lost hair on only one side of her head, which can still be covered by her hair on the other side. After radiation, Megan will have to undergo immunotherapy in Charlotte, NC, for approximately two years.
Even with all of her setbacks and illness, Megan is a child that looks on the bright side of everything. She has lots of hope and faith that God will see her through this. Megan has a giving heart and has started an organization called Hoofprints for Hope for children fighting cancer. She delivers toys and Hope bags to children in the hospitals, supplies the hospitals with toys during the holidays, holds Christmas parties for the children, and uses her miniature horse to make children happy during the difficult times. She loves to be on the giving end of things. She would give the shirt off her back as the old saying goes.
Megan loves hunting! Being in the woods hunting and traveling to different places are her most favorite things to do. Elk, deer, hog, bear, turkey, and squirrel, she hunts it all. Her dream is to travel the world hunting, especially hoping to kill a moose and kudu. Megan also enjoys riding her four wheeler and going mudding. She loves anything outdoors, and is not a girly girl. She enjoys shooting her gun and is working hard to be able to pull her bow back for hunting season.
Our faith, hope, and love for God has been what has taken us through this journey. We don’t know what the future holds, but we know Who holds it.
Megan attended the NWTF convention this year in Nashville, TN. There she met 12 year old Kylie McCrea with Country Girls Outdoors. We saw God move in the friendship that was formed between two young ladies who love Jesus and the great outdoors.
Megan and Kylie will be traveling this year on several hunts in hopes of completing a single season Grandslam of turkeys, going bow fishing, hunting whitetail, hogs, and doing some fishing.
We are believing that the hunting family will show their love, and that the funds needed to get Megan to these hunts will be raised, so she can share her journey in hopes of touching more lives and bringing hope to other children in similar situations.
Megan and Kylie will begin their hunting journey next month. We will be filming the hunts as well as the trips to and from the hunts so that we can share these girls' friendship and journey with everyone. They also hope to include children who are battling sickness on their next journey.
Megan and Kylie want to thank everyone in advance for sharing in their journey and pray for God's blessings for each and everyone of you.
Thank You!
