Megan's Spinal Tumor And Cancer

Donation protected

This is Megan. My beautiful niece. Megan is 11 years old, she loves to sing and dance. She loves playing Minecraft with her cousins and playing with the family dog. She has a beautiful soul. Always happy. Always smiling. Always making others smile. Here is a little bit of her story:
Megan is my niece by marriage and came to live with us in Jan 2020 from Mexico.  She came here to have a better education and better Medical care as she was born with NF1 (Neurofibromatosis type 1). She arrived to America just in time for the Covid 19 pandemic. It greatly hindered her educational experience but she was not phased by it. She kept working hard to learn English and enjoyed school and learning all of the things. She was also healthy during that whole year.  Fast forward to Jan 2021 we went to Mexico with Megan to visit family. Upon arrival to Mexico Megan started to experience extreme neck pain. Her neck was pushed forward and she was unable to turn her head to the side or up. She spent many nights unable to sleep. Her parents brought her to doctors in Mexico, and they had no answers. They thought it was a pinched nerve a simple misaligned neck..... It wasn't getting better.  Understanding that Mexican medicine is not adequate her parents and us decided to bring her back again to the states. When we got back in April we took her to a few different doctors before landing at Gillette's Children's Hospital Of Minnesota. We went in to check for scoliosis (which Megan has) the amazing Doctors there were alarmed by the state of Megan's neck and sent her to MRI stat. She went in for scoliosis that day and walked out with a spinal cord Tumor....

We were devastated. Her parents still in Mexico at the time felt absolutely helpless. The size of Megan's tumor was very large for being on the inside of her spinal cord. It was 12cm long and about 1.5 cm wide. The doctors were very adamant about removing it. She was scheduled for surgery just 2 weeks after her diagnosis. All of this came as a bomb to her and her family and us! She was just a normal kid. And now her life was about to change. Unfortunately during surgery it was found that the tumor was a bad one. The whole thing needed to be removed. Causing more trauma to the Spinal Cord. Thankfully the surgery was successful. But Megan has lost function in her left leg and of her bowels and bladder. She would be staying at Gillette for about 8 weeks in their amazing rehabilitation unit. Fortunately her parents were able to come to help Megan during this tragic time.

Unfortunately the tumor lab results came back.
Positive for Cancer.

Megan now has maligna glioma. Cancer of the nervous system. Her rehab time has now been cut down to only 4 weeks so that she can start an aggressive cancer treatment. Radiation for 8 weeks following 1 whole year of Chemotherapy. On top of this with Megan's NF1,radiation will cause tumors to grow in other places of her body. Making this thing so much more risky. Our heart aches for this beautiful bubbly girl. We are so glad her parents can be here to help her and help us take care of her!! Because of all of this going on her parents arrived as soon as they could. They were not able to be here for surgery or her first 2 weeks of recovery. But are so pleased to be here now and are hoping for the best for Megan.

We are reaching out for some help with donations to build Megan a wheelchair ramp in to our house. Her parents need a vehicle to be able to transport her to and from doctor appointments. She will need radiation 5 times a week and regular Physical Therapy 3 times a week. We have been providing all of these things but the financial burden is starting to get heavy. We have 5 children including Megan.

Her parents also need clothes as they came as fast as they could and spent the little money they had to get here. We are asking with humbled hearts for help. We have much Faith in The Lord that He will heal our Megan. He has given us an amazing Medical team and amazing friends and family. We just want to support the family as much as we can so they can be with their little girl through all of this without worrying about logistics.
Thank you all and God bless.
