Meher-e-Khun School of Music

Meher-e-Khun is the first school of music & arts residency nestled among the beautiful mountains of the Karakorum Range in Pakistan. It was launched in October 2023 by Wajahat Shah Aalmi, a musician with a dream of preserving musical traditions for future generations in the mountainous regions of Pakistan, particularly in the Yasin valley, along with his partner and co-director Sanam Gul.

Wajahat and Sanam began constructing the school building on their own dime, with support from a few close personal connections. We are thrilled that construction has now been completed, and the school was launched this October with our very first music classes for a group of students from 8-17 years old.

Meher-e-Khun is now in need of more financial support for the purchase of instruments, studio equipment, books and furniture. Any amount of support will help Meher-e-Khun reach its vision of educating and empowering young people in these regions of northern Pakistan through music and creative expression.

The mission of Mereh-e-khun School of Music and Residency is to provide a safe and supportive space for young generations to reach their musical and creative potential, to revive the traditional folk music of the mountains of Pakistan, and to foster artistic talent from around the globe. Our programming will prioritize women in music, as women are often unable to explore their potential as creative artists due to societal circumstances.

Donations will be sent directly to the school through the nonprofit organization Found Sound Nation.
