Hi! My name is Jiyeon Kim, a writer and director, and I am fundraising for my Emerson MFA Thesis Film Me: JFK, You: ICN.
THE STORY
Me: JFK, You: ICN is a 17-minute film that follows Ina, a young flight attendant, who struggles to find a way back home for her brother’s wedding.
Through her search and journey back home, she uncovers a suppressed trauma and takes a step forward into a new life. Ina's story symbolizes the struggle to reclaim personal agency and self-worth amidst the demands of freedom. Her journey to attend her brother's wedding despite numerous obstacles mirrors the resilience and determination of survivors seeking to reconnect with loved ones and find a sense of normalcy.
The film highlights the courage required to overcome past trauma and the ongoing battle for empowerment and healing, offering hope and the possibility of forging a new path forward.
ORIGINS AND THEMES
As the writer and director of “Me: JFK, You: ICN”, my primary goal is to shed light on the pervasive issue of domestic violence in East Asia and the often-overlooked struggles of its victims.
This film aims to serve as both an exposé and a catalyst for awareness and change. By telling Ina’s story, I seek to bring attention to the harsh realities many individuals face in similar situations and inspire empathy and action among viewers. By depicting the pressures and expectations that shape Ina's experiences, the film seeks to challenge societal norms and advocate for greater support and resources for victims.
Ultimately, Me: JFK, You: ICN endeavors to contribute to the ongoing efforts to combat domestic violence and support survivors in their journey toward recovery and self-empowerment.
THE GOAL
We are looking to raise $5,000 to make Me: JFK, You: IC happen!
We've just finished our 2024 November shooting and are planning for the completed film in May 2025.
As Ina the main character is a flight attendant, we are hoping to get a plane set and airport location fee from this fund.
We appreciate your help in bringing Me: JFK, You: ICN to the screen! We feel so grateful for the support we’ve already received, including donations, exchanges, and kind favors. This film could not come to life without our wonderful community.
Thank you!
