Meka has had a few set backs and a number of extra veterinary visits due to the complications of her heartworm treatment and her initial poor health. As some of you may know I was expecting to pay around $2,300 all together for her treatment, but so far it has ended up costing us over $4,000. She had to have a emergency vet visit yesterday (this is the 2nd emergency vet visit) due to her stomach swelling and being very bloated. She had to get X-rays, blood test, and a urinalysis. We are still waiting for the results of the x-ray and the urinalysis. My vet said her blood test levels were a little high but it was most likely because I fed her that morning. They are supposed to call me sometime today with the other test results.
As some of you know, we were not looking for a dog when Meka found us, but as animal lovers we could not just leave her in those conditions. She was in a "home" she was not loved nor wanted and being abused and neglected. So we took her and promised to give her a great healthy life with us, and that's just what we are doing.
Everyone has helped us so much coming together for Meka and making sure she gets her treatment so she can live the life she deserves. I have been reluctant to come back here and ask for anything extra, but we have her last shots (shots 2&3) coming up in about 2 weeks and we are now a little short due to her (2nd) emergency vet visit yesterday.
Please help us help Meka finish her treatment and become the healthy dog that we know she really wants to be!

On May 22nd we rescued Meka. Someone had found her on the side of the road, she was pregnant and emaciated already when they found her, they let her give birth to her puppies and then after she was done nursing them she was left her outside in a cage to small for her with no bottom crate pan, in 80-90 degree weather. We took her to the vet the day we got her.
We have a dog at home and needed the clearance from our vet before starting introducing them. We have a chi named Chica so we decided Meka was the perfect name for our newest family member. When we took her to the vet we found out she was about 1 ½ years old. They had to poke her 3 times just to get blood work because she was so dehydrated. She was such a trooper and our vet and her staff fell in love with Meka, just as we had.
At first Meka only wanted to hide in her cage, but now her personality is starting to show! She loves food & treats and knows how to sit! She loves cuddles and is friendly with all animals- big or small. She loves to talk with you! She is a French bulldog x Pitbull so at times it's hard for her to breathe, and the heartworms make it worse. She has her own room in our house, which she loves. She doesn't have much energy right now unfortunately due to the heartworms and she has to stay calm, so she like to stay in her room and rest.
When we rescued Meka we knew she was malnourished & not cared for. We knew she was a special girl. We had no clue she would test positive for heartworms though. She also has a bacterial skin infection and pin worms. She is currently taking medicine & being treated for her skin infection & the pin worms. We also got her rabies shot, & some other minor things done for her. She goes back to the vet on June 5th.
When we rescued Meka we were not looking for another dog. Unfortunately we just don't have to finances right now to pay for heartworm treatment. We are hoping people will help us get her the heartworm treatment she desperately needs. She is such a sweet girl and has so much life left in her. Please help us get Meka healthy!
