Meka’s cancer radiation treatments
Meka is a German Shepherd/Husky mix that is almost 4 years old. She is my absolute everything and I love her so much. My sidekick, my best friend, my everything. She loves being outdoors. She loves swimming. She absolutely loves people. Her favorite thing to do is to go on long hikes with her favorite people. Her personality is just beautiful and she has so much love and life within her that her cancer diagnosis was devastating. About a month ago, I noticed something in the back of her mouth when she yawned. It looked like a piece of pink popcorn. When it did not go away after a couple weeks, I made a vet appointment for it to be checked out. Her vet said there was a mass in the back right side of her lower jaw and scheduled her for a biopsy the next day. A week later, my world was shattered when the results showed it was a spindle cell neoplasia... a very aggressive type of cancer that does not respond to chemotherapy. Her vet referred us to a cancer hospital and said that she needs to have a partial mandibulectomy to remove the part of her jaw that contains the cancerous mass. It is the only way that we can aggressively begin to attack this, and it is costly. Because of the need for immediate care, I am unable to save money in order to have the surgery. She needs this now, as the mass in her jaw continues to invade more of her bone daily. She is scheduled for her surgery consult Monday, November 9th. Once the surgery is complete, she will then be referred to an oncologist for future treatments and follow- up appointments. In full disclosure, I do have health insurance for her, but it requires full payment for any procedures/appointments up front and then submitted claims in order for any reimbursement for out-of-pocket costs. I am unable to pay for this up front and I am asking for help in order to have this surgery. Once the surgery is over, any and all reimbursement I receive from her insurance will go towards her oncology appointments and future treatments so that we can fight this and give her the best chance to be cancer free and live a long, healthy life.
Her vet said that Meka is young, vibrant, and healthy and the partial mandibulectomy is the best way that she will be able tocontinue to live a long and happy life cancer free.
I’m asking for help from anyone that is able to, even if it is a little. Any amount will help Meka’s chances of beating this and I truly appreciate any and all donations. I love my little sidekick more than anything else in the world and I want to give her the best chance possible. She’s been my rock through hard times, and now I need to be hers.
I have been quoted $3500-$4500 for the surgery. I am asking for $4000
to cover the surgery and follow up appointments with an oncologist when that time comes. I truly appreciate any donation you are able to give.
