Help Melbourne High School Rowing Team Stay Competitive and Safe!
Hi, my name is Martyn O'Leary, and I am the Assistant Director for Melbourne High School Rowing. We are celebrating our 110th year, making us one of the oldest and most cherished clubs at Melbourne High School, and one of the last few public school rowing programs in Melbourne.
As a state government school, our rowing club has a rich history and plays a unique role in offering our boys the opportunity to compete at a competitive level. Currently, we are at full capacity with 72 dedicated members at the Powerhouse Club. The school plays a role in keeping the MHS Rowing programme up and running by making it as affordable as possible for the boys. We also acknowledge the fantastic work of the parent fraternity in their fundraising - but we do need a bit of extra help.
Unfortunately, our aging equipment is aging.
We need your help to raise funds for new equipment to ensure our boys remain competitive.
Here’s how your donation will make a difference:
- Two new CoxBoxes at $1,048.50 each, vital for effective communication on the water.
- Four pairs of Concept 2 Sculling Oars at $1,235.85 AUD per pair, essential for keeping our team competitive.
Our total fundraising goal is $7,040.40 AUD (any additional funds raised will go towards the purchase of a new boat).
Our boys are taking the initiative to raise these funds by participating in the 100km Challenge!
On August 10th, starting at 6am, our rowers will be at the Powerhouse Rowing Club (164 Alexandra Ave). We invite you to come down and watch the rowing team attack this challenge. Each team of 5 members in our squad will complete 20km on the rowing machines. Our first year rowers will complete the 100km between them however they can manage, and our seniors will complete 20km each in one straight interval to equal 100km between them. This will be their first time rowing such a distance on the rowing machine and will test their physical limits. The event will conclude at 3pm.
