Melina's Family Needs Our Support

Hi, my name is Laysha Fajardo. Last Wednesday, March 29th, my mom, Melina, complained of chest pains so we took her to the hospital. She is only 40 years old and has never had any health issues before this. In the hospital, she experienced a heart attack and her heart stopped. Doctors performed CPR and brought her back to us but it put her into a coma. After many brain scans, the doctors have told us that she has lost most of the function of her brain. If she wakes up, she will not be able to eat, talk, or walk again. We are praying for a miracle and still hold hope that she will come back to us.

My mom spent most of her childhood in Tijuana before moving to San Mateo in middle school. She has lived here ever since. I am one of my mom's four children. I am 17, my brother Manny is 19, Javier is 14, and Gerardo is 11. Our mom is the rock of our family and we are not sure how to function as she fights for her life in the hospital. She works as a dental assistant in San Mateo and helps support our family with the help of my dad.

We are asking for your support of our family in this impossible time. We have MediCal but it will only cover a part of the costs of my mom's care in the ICU. The hardship of medical costs will make living and thriving in San Mateo very difficult. We hope to not have to take money from her 401k to help pay for the medical bills because she was very proud of saving that money for our future.
