Melissa Dorsett's Crush Cancer Fund

Melissa is a wonderfully loving mother of two beautiful boys and a caring wife to her husband Wil. Many know the difficulties facing a working mother. Add in the extra care that comes with two special needs children. The days filled of work, appointments, school. And then, the devastating diagnosis of cancer.
Nearly 5,000 people get diagnosed with cancer every day. And every family that faces this diagnosis experiences the shock, the fear and the unknown...all in a single instant. Insurance is not always enough. Average costs to patients can easily eclipse $100,000 and this does not take into account the loss of funds from not being able to work.
Melisa has been married to her husband, Wil, since 2003. They met at the University Police Department in 2002. Their first beautiful son, Drayke, was welcomed on June 7, 2004 followed by their youngest, Deagyn on August 21, 2008. Not long after, the boys both experienced their first seizures. Both suffering from Epilepsy.
Being the mother of two sons with Autism and Epilepsy seems, to many of us, a HUGE job. And although it very much is just that, more than most can fathom, Melissa handles it with grace, love, faith and a strength that most of us can only dream of having. Melissa works all while taking care of the cooking, the cleaning, the shopping..add in handling the boys medicines, appointments and schedules. She works harder than any one individual should have to and she does it with a full heart and love! Not to mention the complete support to her hardworking husband who works for the Lynchburg Sheriff's Department.
Melissa has coordinated the participation in the National Walk for Epilepsy for several years. She began her masters degree in Addictions Counseling which is now being interrupted for a brief time to kicking cancers butt.
It is with a heavy heart that I report that Melissa has Stage 3 Rectal Cancer. Melissa faces so many challenges in the near future I'd love to ask for your support, in any way you're able, to help her on her journey. If you can, please donate, if you can, please share this page to others, and if you can, please keep Melissa, Wil, Drayke & Deagyn in your prayers for a swift and full recovery!
