Melissa Faith Robison
Melissa Robison is an Army Veteran who served in the 101st Airborne Air Assault Division. Having survived both a Traumatic Brain Injury and PTSD, Melissa is an incredible healer who was, as of a year ago, volunteering to help fellow veterans heal their emotional wounds through weekend retreats and taking fellow veterans out on her boat.
At some point last year, during her time volunteering, Melissa unknowingly contracted Tuberculosis, a serious disease that was misdiagnosed at the VA Hospital for six months. Due to the misdiagnosis and severity of the disease, one of Melissa’s lungs will need to be removed, and she is not eligible for a transplant. Although she has begun the process of treatment for the disease, it has already caused scarring on her heart, air track, esophagus and stomach. She was finally given a correct diagnosis and treatment at Long Beach Memorial, but the original misdiagnosis has caused a trail of trauma.

She has been hospitalized over 100 days since July and has had seven procedures to date. In addition, she has been in about 50 days of isolation. There is no end date in sight as she has contracted other illnesses while in the hospital and those must be cleared before her next surgery. This is a waiting game that has physical and financial ramifications.
She has been transferred from Long Beach Memorial, St. Mary's Long Beach, Long Beach VA, Loma Linda Riverside, back to Long Beach VA, Norwalk Convalescent Home, and how currently at Downey Community Hospital, waiting for another transport back to Long Beach VA. As of 12/28/2019
Your support and compassion are needed. Melissa is expected to make it through this next major surgery due to her excellent health and lifestyle prior to this illness. The surgery will require at least 1-2 months of inpatient rehabilitation once they deem her healthy enough to move forward with the surgery. Life is very different now and during this hospitalized life Melissa has burned through her savings, retirement funds and is the process of selling off her boat. This fund has been put together to support Melissa through this challenging time, just as she has supported countless others.
Despite this incredibly tough situation, Melissa does her best to stay optimistic and filled with gratitude. Even during her time in the hospital, she is still helping veterans and friends through her healing way of being. Melissa Robison is a beautiful warrior, and incredible gifted being. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Master’s degree in Technology Management, from Bridgewater State University, and is a published author. Robison was also an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary through search and rescue patrols, and greatly appreciated being able to once again put on a uniform and peacefully serve her country, helping others. Melissa has also been a long-time volunteer for Domestic Violence Shelters as well as many homeless programs. Melissa was on several committees involving 3 non-profits last year including traveling the nation to volunteer to support healing for vets with PTSD, on-water search and rescue patrols and was credited with volunteering over 700 hours of volunteer work in 2018.
Please consider contributing to this fund set up by one of Melissa’s commanders to support her and lift her up despite all that she is going through. A little bit goes a long way!
For those who have been wondering about the VA's coverage, they cover a percentage only of the upcoming surgery, she has to go outside the VA system to receive a complicated surgery due to the VA system not having a Doctor that specializes in Lobectomy's and she personally has to find this Doctor, and is searching nationwide on her own.
