On January 2nd, my beautiful sister, Melissa, underwent a nearly 9 hour surgical resection (Mandibulectomy) to remove an aggressive Ameloblastoma from her jaw. This rare tumor only affects about 1 in a million people! She required a bone graft from her leg to replace the affected jaw bone. As a result of the swelling, she was trached to help her breathe, and a nasogastric feeding tube was placed until she is able to eat again. This diagnosis was a complete shock to her and devastating for our family, as life just started to get back to normal after our brother's cancer a year ago this month. Furthermore, Melissa was informed that her medical leave will not be covered as her Teacher's Union opted out of paid sick leave. Her health insurance does not cover all of her medical expenses, and she will be responsible for a substantial amount. Melissa has a long recovery ahead of her and we want her to focus on healing, not the financial hardship this will cause her. My sister has one of the most kindest, generous hearts I know, and is now in need of the help she so freely gives to others. Thank you in advance for your prayers positive thoughts, and assistance. God bless!
