Melissa Ortega was killed earlier today. Melissa was 8 years old and a resident of Little Village and attended Emiliano Zapata Academy. She and her mother immigrated from Mexico this past August. They were both excited to start a new life in Chicago and build their American Dream. I was honored to have met Melissa and will always remember her beautiful smile.
I am asking that you please help fund her funeral expenses. She will be buried in her home town, Los Sauces, Tabasco, Zacatecas, Mexico.

Melissa Ortega fue asesinada hoy temprano. Melissa tenía 8 años y era residente de Little Village y asistió a la Academia Emiliano Zapata. Ella y su mamá emigraron de México el pasado agosto. Ambas estaban emocionadas de comenzar una nueva vida en Chicago y construir su sueño americano. Me sentí honrada de haber conocido a Melissa y siempre recordaré su hermosa sonrisa.
