Melissa Talbott's Medical Expenses

Hi, my name is Chandler Welch, and I am fundraising for Melissa Talbott's medical and living expenses.

Melissa was involved in a hit-in-run accident on Friday, August 4th, 2023 while driving home from work. The driver rear-ended her causing her car to spin out and ultimately hit several trees. Thankfully, some good samaritans stopped to help Melissa, but she still suffered extensive injuries. Melissa also recently switched jobs, and currently does not have any health insurance.

Melissa's injuries include a broken pelvis, broken shoulder, fractured collarbone, ligament damage to her dominant hand, and plenty of cuts and bruises. So far, she has undergone multiple surgeries to set her bones and repair the ligament damage. We're hoping that she will be released from the hospital soon, but we expect she will be there for several days. Melissa is also facing several months of physical therapy as she regains the ability to walk.

Melissa is speech teacher for special needs children. As mentioned above, she recently switched jobs. This past week was her first week with a full-time case-load of kids, and she would've been eligible for health insurance in three more weeks. Her parents are also retired, and are unable to bear the costs of this accident by themselves.

I'm seeking a starting goal of $20,000 to help cover the costs of the ambulance ride, the multiple-day hospital stay, her surgeries on her hand and pelvis, physical therapy, cost-of-living while she's unable to work, and any other costs that arise from this accident.

Melissa is very sweet and loving person. Her presence alone can light up a room, and I'm thankful to call her my best friend. I'm also so thankful that she's still here with us. She dedicates her life to helping others, and spreading positivity.
