MELISSA'S LUNG CANCER RELIEF FUND

Thank you so much for taking a moment to read this and consider donating to this special person! Melissa King is an incredible role model, friend, wife, daughter, co-worker, and more to so many people. She’s the kind of person that would drop what she’s doing to help you if you were ever in need of something. I cannot express how much of an impact she’s made on me personally and my wish is that our community can come together to help alleviate major medical expenses for Melissa.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, Melissa was furloughed earlier this year. As the economic impact continues to take a toll on the hospitality industry, Hilton had to make a very difficult decision to eliminate her position that will become effective soon. Due to this, Melissa’s medical coverage is extremely limited and she needs our help now more than ever before.
A message from Melissa regarding her diagnosis:
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in July, which has metastasized to my liver. I am fortunate to have a tested positive for a specific gene mutation that allows me to have targeted treatment, which avoids needing chemotherapy and dealing with the harsh side effects of that treatment (including being able to keep my hair). If I respond to this treatment positively, it will also hopefully help to add years to my life and we remain positive that science is going to keep finding ways to treat this cancer and keep me around for a while.
Right now we don't know if I'm going to be able to find a new job and return to work as I figure out the side effects of this treatment or whether the treatment will work. We also know that we have a lot of medical bills headed our way. Losing my job with Hilton right when all of this has happened has also caused me to have to change insurance plans and doctors right when I begin my treatment, and we do not know what kind of bills await us with new insurance. The co-payment for the medicine that I'm taking for my treatment can cost thousands of dollars per month if the insurance decides that this treatment isn't necessary for me.
In general, we just have so many unknowns ahead of us, and the loss of my job right at this time has made those unknowns much scarier.
Thank you, again, for your time and consideration!!
