NYC Marathon Fundraiser- James Blake Foundation

My world was flipped upside down in 2020 when I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple Positive Breast Cancer at age 26. There was a lot of uncertainty about what the next days, weeks, months, and years would look like as I navigated my diagnosis. I certainly didn’t think I’d be crossing the finish line of the NYC Marathon 10 months post chemotherapy and double mastectomy.

Cancer in a lot of ways is like running a marathon. There are mile markers along the way as you progress through treatment. Certain parts of the race you feel good, but there are really hard stretches. Friends and family cheering from the sideline make it possible. Hydration is key. And there is no better feeling than being done!

Running the NYC Marathon in 2021 did a lot for me post cancer, but most importantly, it gave me my confidence back. It was bigger than simply running 26.2 miles. I was reminded I can do whatever I put my mind to with the help of my friends. I look back on that day with a lot of pride and happy memories.

And maybe I’m a little crazy, but I want that feeling of crossing the finish line again. I’m raising money for the James Blake Foundation to gain my bib for the 2024 NYC Marathon. Every dollar raised will benefit the James Blake Foundation fund at Memorial Sloan Kettering, focusing on early detection research for cancer. I always say early detection saved my life! #feelyourboobs
