Melkamu Mamo (Malcolm)

On July 6th, my dear friend suffered a debilitating stroke, which left him facing a long and hard recovery period. During this time, he is unable to care for his wife and three daughters and because of the paralysis caused by the stroke Malcolm and his family will need to relocate from their 4th- story apartment that has no elevator in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to ground floor handicap housing.

With the unexpected physical and financial burdens Malcolm and his family are now facing, I want to raise money to help with immediate expenses (health care and relocation), and long-term costs (living, medical, etc.). The funds raised will be used to relocate Malcolm and his family to a ground-floor apartment, to purchase a wheel-chair, and to obtain medical care, medications, and school fees for his three young daughters.

On a personal note, Malcolm once saved my life. Malcolm was my guide the first time I visited Lalibela, Ethiopia 12 years ago. When I became acutely ill, Malcolm advocated for me and made sure that the airlines transported me to Addis Ababa to get the health care that I needed so that I could then be airlifted to the American Hospital in Paris where I was on life support. Malcolm saved my life by getting me on that plane in order to get the critical medical care I needed, and now I want to do my best to see that he gets the medical care he now needs to recover.
