Hello everyone,
My name is Mayra Ramos. I have a daughter, who I love dearly. Her name is Melissa and she is twenty-three years old. For the past three years I have watched my daughter get weaker and weaker. I’ve watched helplessly as an illness takes over her body. I’ve watched her body turn frail, and the glow in her face fade. She has been unable to eat and when she does, she immediately goes to the restroom. She is in and out of the restroom every few minutes with extensive blood in her stool. She has lost over thirty pounds. Her body is slowly giving out on her. As a parent, these past three years have been a nightmare. I’ve done what every other parent would do; I have fought for my child. I have taken her to specialists to try to find answers. We have received multiple different diagnoses and treatments. They have put her on more medications than I can count. They have done nothing in making her situation better. Due to her condition, she has been unable to keep a job and much less, a normal lifestyle. Unfortunately, this has led to Melissa not having medical insurance, nor the means to obtain medical assistance. I have already done the necessary paperwork to add her to my own insurance, but it won’t take effect until next month. Unfortunately, in the last month her condition has taken a turn for the worse. We have had to seek medical help in Mexico because we are unable to afford medical help here in the United States. It has only been recently that we’ve discovered she’s been suffering from Chron’s disease, but we haven’t found a successful treatment. She has been admitted to the hospital twice in the last four weeks. She has received over five blood transfusions. Although medical care in Mexico is significantly less expensive, we are struggling financially to continue battling this disease. I will do whatever is necessary to make sure my daughter receives medical treatment. I am asking for your generosity to help me continue seeking medical treatment for my daughter. I don’t know how long, or how much more expensive this road to recovery will take. In the past month, her medical costs have reached a high of $12,000 and the doctor’s anticipate a cost of over $20,000 for the next couple of weeks she is admitted there. I have had to take off work for the last few weeks to care for her, but her medical bills still need to get paid. Anything you are able to donate will help us immensely until we are able to give her care in the United States. I thank you in advance for your generosity.
