Melody is a Fighter!

Melody is a fighter.
Everyone has that fighter who they believe in, the one they’re cheering on as they watch them endure round after round of seemingly insurmountable challenges. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the ring or on a field or someone overcoming hurdles in their own life. We all have people we cheer for because we want to see them overcome. Just when you think that fighter is down for the count, they hear the cheers and words of encouragement of the supporters who are gathered around and they rise again, invoking a crescendo of awe & inspiration in the onlookers. In our small way, by contributing to their victory, we experience victory ourselves.
Melody has had some losses and some victories.
This isn’t Melody’s first battle. She suffered some losses early in life, from the untimely death of her parents to the loss of her son to SIDS. If those devastating losses taught her anything it’s that life is a precious gift and it’s worth fighting for.
She fought back against cancer and she defeated it. However, it returned. Melody didn’t give up. Though it was an exhausting battle and the outcome was uncertain, she fought back as those around her cheered her on to triumph again. As Teddy Roosevelt once said, “Life is a long campaign.”
Melody has a new opponent.
It was not long after these battles that Melody fell ill once again. This time her foe is more mysterious. Its name is Aplastic Anemia. Unlike cancer, most people have never heard of it. It is defined as a “deficiency of all types of blood cells caused by failure of bone marrow development”.
This giant of an enemy has weakened her body and threatened to destroy her. It has, on several occasions, left her sickly and bed ridden, but she rebounds as we cheer her on. This courageous fighter is sustained by regular blood transfusions and medications, but she’s growing tired as the battle continues. She knows that any infection could finish her.
A glorious finish to the fight.
It was with a new sparkle in her eye that Melody told me about a new treatment for which she was being evaluated. “It could save me,” she said. She had to meet certain medical criteria to be considered for it and before she left for her appointment, she asked us to pray.
We did pray, knowing that where the Lord goes before us in battle, victory is assured.
Melody was approved. However, the news was bittersweet. This courageous warrior cannot proceed to victory unless she meets her $3500 insurance deductible by March 13th. She has no way to come up with this money on her own.
This is what stands between victory & defeat, life & death? $3500.00?
So, here is our chance to rise to the occasion and aid our fighter in the complete overthrow of this devastating disease.

This is a game changer and we can all play a part. We can be champions!
