Help Me Match Mel’s Reading Corner’s $1,500 Pledge!

My name is Mel and I started Mel’s Reading Corner

My parents and I take annual trips to the Philippines, and the last 3 years we were there, we visited 4 elementary schools (over 800 children!! ) in the rural jungles of Tagkawayan. We drove 8 hours into deep rainforests and supplied children from age 5 to 12 with books, school supplies, weather protection, and food!!

The children there are so happy and so full of life. They live in conditions we probably would never imagine living in (some of them literally do not have floors in their houses. They still walk on mud and sleep in hammocks made of coconut leaves!! ) Yet, they are still full of smiles, joy, and laughter!! They’re so pure and should be encouraged and shown that their potential is not limited to where or in what conditions they were born, but what they COULD BE!

In rural areas like the mountain jungles of the Philippines, it can so easily feel like the rest of the world forgets about you… but I remember them every morning that I wake up. They remind me that I don’t even need shoes on my feet to be thankful to experience life.

I have made a personal pledge to buy $1500 worth of books before my next trip in February 2026 (THATS 75,000 PESOS in the Philippines! and that just reminds me how third world my home country is). That amount could supply 5 schools with books for years and years!! Potentially thousands of kids!!

All I’m asking is that some of you feel same way about encouraging life and joy in these children and help me to ignite the fire in them for a better life and brighter future!

Matching my personal donation of $1,500 would be absolutely mind blowing, and would change so many lives… and could potentially change our world for the better!! Helping to educate children with the purest of hearts is a sure fire way to make our world a better, more loving, and beautiful place.

All that would take is $5 from 300 of my friends and family… $5 to make hundreds and hundreds of children smile every time they open a book I wish you guys could feel the same joy I feel when I meet them, and this could be your chance to get that. It will change your life too I promise you I’m crying tears of joy right now as I type this. Even one single donation of $5 more dollars would be so incredible for me and for all these kids, cuz it would show that I’m doing the right thing and someone believed in me and my mission to help them grow.
