MELS Speaks Year 12!

Help to support the MELS Speech Team in continuing their success!

Join us at MELS Speaks!, a showcase held to fundraise and celebrate the progress of the MELS Speech Team. Come support us on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025 at 5:30 PM in the Yellow Cafeteria. If you are unable to join us, then feel free to leave your support here. We have used our funds to support our students' success at the Yale Invitational, the Liberty Bell Classic at UPenn, the Princeton Classic, and hopefully the New York State Championships and Grand National Tournaments.

The Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School Speech Team has continued to see tremendous advancements within this past year. Our team is the most successful it's ever been! At the Chaminade Invitational, a state level regional tournament, Levi Wallace double-championed in Declamation and Program Oral Interpretation, Sophie Reynolds-Green championed in Extemporaneous Speaking, and our Duo Interpretation Team of Sara Mohamed and Amelia Metz placed first! We have also been able to qualify 19 students so far for the New York State Championship, of 8 which are double-qualified!

Our season culminates with the Grand National Tournament in Chicago; we have qualified 17 students, which is every single person that competed at the qualifying tournament! Some other highlights from our season were at our last tournament of the season where MELS won the coveted awards for best Speech Team and best Speech and Debate Program in Brooklyn and Queens! We are grateful that with all of our hard work and commitment throughout the years, we have been able to come out on top.

Above all, our community has grown and cultivated a supportive team dynamic.

Through Speech, students create a positive atmosphere to build confidence and camaraderie. Thank you for your support; we are a better team because of it!
