Nola Gail Hughes 03/01/1958 - 12/07/2021 was a beautiful person with a huge heart and amazing soul. On 12/07/2021 she passed away from her battle with cancer leaving behind her only son Jesse, but also many wonderful memories for all those who knew her.

Nola was born in Orange, Ca to her parents Tommy and Florence Ramey and was child 6 of 7. She worked various jobs as a teen, and eventually found her niche in administration as an adult but became physically disabled in the early 80’s. In 1986 she married Woodie Dale Hughes in Rockwall, Texas and shortly after moved together to California. In 1988 Nola gave birth to her son Jesse and was overjoyed to have a child of her own. In 2005, her husband Woodie passed away leaving her and her son devastated as it was completely unexpected. Following the death of her husband Nola was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and with the help of her doctors at Loma Linda University Medical Center was able to go into a remission status. In 2014 Nola’s son Jesse bought a home in Victorville, CA and asked her to move in with him so he could make sure she was ok. In 2015, Nola’s cancer returned but had metastasized and became increasingly aggressive. Eventually the cancer would travel to her skull and brain, causing extreme pain, headaches, cysts on her head, as well as memory loss. As treatment continued she was so devastated to lose her hair, it was so beautiful and really something she cared about, she cried as it began to go. Recently, as her health began to decline the doctors had stated that she had about 6 months left to live. She was absolutely devastated as well as her son and family. Unfortunately, that 6 months only turned out to be about 1 month. Nola had went to visit her sister, Linda in Highland, CA about 1 hour away from her home in Victorville and was set to return home on Thursday December 2nd but she would never come home. On the morning of December 2nd she felt very Ill and got sick with nausea to the point she had to be taken by ambulance to Loma Linda Emergency Room. By the time she was there in the emergency room she was unable to speak or recognize anyone. Her sister and son went to the hospital to see her, be with her and try to find out any information they could in regard to her condition. On Friday December 3rd, her son Jesse was informed by doctors that she wouldn’t be coming home, and that she was in her passing stages. For the next 4 days Nola fought very hard, but the cancer was just too much and on December 7th at 2:30 am Nola passed away in Loma Linda, CA. At this time her son and family are in mourning. Her son who she lived with is trying to take care of all necessary things related to his mother as well as making sure her final wishes are fulfilled. It is a difficult time for him, her family and all who knew and loved her. Nola was a very generous and loving person who wanted to help in anyway she could, so at this time no funeral will be held as she has donated her remains to the willed bodies program at Loma Linda University to help medical students and staff learn from her body. It will be approximately 2 years until the services are held in which she had wanted to be buried with her late husband Woodie at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.

We are asking for help to the family of Nola to cover related expenses to her passing. medical bills, financial obligations that remain, unexpected expenses, transport fees, urn engraving etc. and anything surely will help at this difficult time.

Thank you,

The Family of Nola G. Hughes
