Late on December 20th, just 5 days before Christmas and 3 days after her 24th birthday, our Uche Chukwuma died in a horrible motor vehicle accident involving a trailer-tractor in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Uche was the youngest of three hardworking siblings with big aspirations. Her parents, who had gone back to their home country Nigeria to visit relatives they had not seen in years, are still in shock by the eery news.
Uche had the purest soul, the most contagious, positive personality—she was an inspiration. Last year, Uche graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in African American Studies from Syracuse University, where she established the Light on Ebony club to embrace black culture and raise awareness on issues facing the black community in America. Uche then made the ambitious decision to move to Atlanta for law school with aims of becoming an entertainment lawyer. She only had a year and a half left until the end of her program.
She had big plans for the new decade, as she had started a partnership with her good friend and fellow law colleague in the music industry. She had filled her schedule with classes, networking events, and client interviews in preparation for the launch of this new entrepreneurial venture. Uche was known as a mentor, a great friend, a loving sister, a caring daughter, a budding entrepreneur, a social butterfly. That is what makes this loss all the more painful.
At this time, many people have asked how to support our family during this most difficult time of our lives. We have set up this Gofundme page in response to the outpour of support for our family. 100% of the funds raised will go directly to Uche’s siblings and parents, to help them cover the cost of her wake, funeral, and to pay off certain expenses like her loans. We truly appreciate any and all support.
