Memorial and Funeral Expenses for Beraky Kelib

Donation protected
Our beloved Beraky Kelib, a longtime resident of New York City, passed on April 5th, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend to all those around him.

He was born in Shimanigus Laelay, a small town in Eritrea, on September 23rd, 1941. After finishing primary school, he followed his adventurous spirit and pursued a career as a merchant marine. Joining the crew of the Queen of Sheba, he sailed the seas, exploring different cultures and meeting people from around the globe.

In 1976, he made the bold decision to emigrate to the United States to support his family. Settling in Harlem, New York City, he faced the challenges of being a new immigrant head-on. Despite the initial struggles, he persevered. Starting as a taxi driver, he later found his calling in managing a small grocery store called Abbysinia. Working alongside his family, he became an indispensable part of the local community, known for his warm smile and friendly demeanor.

Beraky was a proud husband to his beloved wife, Ghenet Kelib. Together, they were devoted parents to three children: Yonatan, Michael, and Makda. Beraky was an active member of the local Eritrean community, known for bringing people together and helping those in need. He had a warm and welcoming personality, always ready with a joke to bring a smile to everyone's face.

We are all saddened by the sudden loss of Beraky. He expressed his dream to be buried in the small town he was born in. With this we are requesting your financial assistance for the heavy costs associating with the funeral including a memorial service and his subsequent travel to Eritrea for his final resting place. We want to give Beraky the memorial he deserves so that we may honor his memory and say our last goodbyes.

Please consider donating to support our family during this difficult time. Your contribution, no matter the amount, will make a difference. If you are unable to donate, we would deeply appreciate it if you could share the link to this fundraiser with your friends and family. Your kindness and support mean the world to us.

I, Makda Kelib, am the daughter of Beraky Kelib and I am the writer of this article. All funds collected will be used directly for his memorial and funeral costs and transportation expenses.

Updates for the specific time and location of the upcoming memorial service will be loaded on as an update. Please reach out for any additional questions.
