Please Help Our Mom, Ruth Honeycutt Blackburn
Ruth Honeycutt Blackburn: Ruth became a mom at the young age of 19 with the birth of her son, Aaron (now 32). Ruth fell in love with being a mom and later adopted Jordan (now 14) as an infant in 2005. That was just the beginning of raising children for Ruth. Through the process of adoption, Ruth became involved in foster care and for the last 15 years she has helped foster over 250 children. Ruth also formed a non-profit organization in Brownsburg called Jordan's Place that has assisted over 600 foster families with basic necessities. Ruth's big heart has made a huge impact on her community. Ruth's Passions: Ruth loves spending time with her children and watching them become strong, independent and compassionate individuals. She loves spending time with the love of her life, Steve, her mom of the heart, Ostella and her close friends. Ruth enjoys photography. She enjoys capturing still photos of nature in motion and seeing life in a new way.
Ruth's Health Journey: In July of 2018, after a couple months of chronic issues, doctors found a tumor and quickly diagnosed Ruth with Stage 4 Neuroendocrine Carcinoma; a very rare cancer with less than 1.8% of the world's population having it, making it less understood even among oncologists. The cancer quickly spread through out her body. Ruth fought hard through many aggressive chemotherapy treatments but they always ended in ER runs to the hospital with severe pain and even once filled her lungs with blood clots that ultimately destroyed a portion of her lung. By October 2019, Ruth and her small circle of support decided to travel to a specialist in Kentucky to seek a more effective medical approach. Hopes were high as a new plan of treatment was underway. However, the pain continued to worsen and the chemo regimen was not working. Ruth spent most of this past holiday season in the hospital with severe pain. On Jan 31, 2020, the doctors held a big meeting with Ruth and her small circle of support and told us there is nothing left to try, nothing Ruth can do to fight this disease anymore and that hospice is the best plan. We are heart broken and greatly appreciate all prayers and support. We need to turn her small circle of support into a ginormous one!
