Memorial Bench & Charity Donation for Larry Novak

Hi everyone,

We are trying to raise $4,500.00 CAD for a memorial bench along Calgary's Bow River for Larry Thomas Novak. Anything above the goal will be donated to a Canadian charity that is contributing to Heart Disease research.

As most of you know, my father, Larry Novak, passed away on November 7 last year. It was an unbearably hard time for his close friends and family, and even now, nine months later, it's hard to believe he's gone. He seems to linger- every time someone cracks a witty joke or mentions a happy hour or talks about pork chops. Really, he lingers in everything. But lately where I've gone to spend time with him is in nature.

Dad loved to walk. He adored his quiet, contemplative time away from the modern world, wandering the trails or just meandering through the streets near his home. He tried to get his steps in, stay healthy, and reflect on things. I've found that I've been walking far more now that he's gone, and feel closest to him during these treks.

On July 28, 2022, dad would be turning 70 years old. And for his birthday we thought it would be nice to see if we could procure a memorial bench for him along one of my brother and I's favourite walks along the Bow River. We think dad would really like that, and it would be a nice place for his friends and family to visit. To spend some time with dad, and to watch the world go by.
