Memorial Benches for Les McKeown & Alan Longmuir - Edinburgh
Donation protected
We sadly and very unexpectedly lost Bay City Rollers’ Founding member Alan Longmuir in July 2018 and front man Les McKeown in April 2021.
Bay City Rollers Fan Community is honoured to have been asked for help to raise funds for a Memorial Bench in Princes St Gardens, Edinburgh for Les McKeown. His wife Peko McKeown has donated several items of stage clothing owned and worn by Les to be auctioned to assist with the fundraising.
Peko has advised that whenever they visited Edinburgh they would walk through the gardens reading the memorial plaques on benches, and sit awhile in contemplation. Les frequently expressed a desire that he would like a bench when he passed away, a place for fans and loved ones to be able to sit and remember him. Once we were made aware of this, we knew we had to step up and make this happen!
Due to several requests from fans to add Alan's name to this bench, it has been decided to go one better and fundraise for a separate bench to honour and remember Alan. Eileen Longmuir and the wider Longmuir family are fully supportive of this proposal, and Peko and Jubei McKeown are delighted knowing that there will be a bench for Alan in Princes St Gardens also.
A bench in Princes St Gardens costs £5,045 which includes the bench, installation, plaque and twenty years’ of maintenance. We hope to submit our bench application(s) to Edinburgh City Council in early January 2025.
In addition to auctioning the stage clothing, we will undertake other fundraising, and anyone wishing to simply donate towards either bench can do so via this page! All donations will be automatically entered into a free prize draw - our way of thanking you for your support!
Thank you in advance of your generosity!
