Memorial Day Weekend Fire Takes Veteran's Home.

Donation protected
This is a fundraiser for the Crowe family from Gloucester Mass that lost everything in a fire that destroyed their apartment along with all their possessions.

In the early morning hours of May 28th, Rick Crowe awoke to the scent of smoke and the crackling sounds of the fire, the flames of which were climbing up from the side porch of his neighbors below. He and his wife Eileen were able to scramble quickly enough to save themselves and their cat, Ajax.

But, as the rest of the world woke up this holiday weekend, Eileen sat, devastated and in disbelief in her car, in her nightgown, updating family and friends that they had lost everything. Everything.

When firefighters went into the gutted apartment to search for her necessary medications in the refrigerator, they had to pry the melted door open, and that was only to discover that the entire contents within were melted as well.

Eileen and Rick are seniors with multiple health issues between them. He is a veteran who served our country, and together they were living paycheck to paycheck on social security and disability. They did not have renters' insurance and don't have a savings account to help them build a new life in their golden years. All they have to their names are their phones, a car, Ajax, and their pajamas. What they need desperately are help and hope. When all feels lost in ashes and soot and in the memories of curls of flames taking every bit of everyday life away, we must trust in the goodness of the community that surrounds and supports us.

We are asking for just that, support. Nothing can replace the personal memories - the photo albums and knickknacks, the remnants of lost loved ones that we hold onto - but goodness can help to restore faith, and financial help can help replace those physical needs that we take for granted each and every day. Toothbrushes, underwear, socks and shoes, furniture to rest on, sheets for mattresses, refrigerators for medicine.

Eileen Crowe is my wife’s cousin and best friend. We are using this platform to raise money to aid them in finding a new apartment and rebuilding their lives. All funds raised will go directly to aid Eileen and Rick to get them back on their feet. It’s not easy starting over. Any donations will be used to secure a new apartment and replace clothing and as much as possible that was lost in the fire.

Please give what you can. Thank you, and God bless.
