Memorial Education Fund for the Deng Family

My Dad passed away on November 6th, 2021. He left home on the afternoon of November 1st to take care of family errands. Late evening on that day, police came knocking and told my Mom he was in the E.R. Over the next few days my family and I went through grief, clung on to whatever shreds of hope we had, and endured sleeplessness moving to and from the hospital. A few days after being admitted to the hospital, he passed away, and left my Mom, Linton (12), Silvia (8), Isabelle (myself at 15), and his elderly parents at home.

My Dad had a profound impact on not only my life, but also many others. He always made others feel beautiful, so now I want the world to see how beautiful he was too.

My Dad entered this country young, scrappy, and poor. He didn’t know any English and pieced together his living working as a busboy in restaurants. He went on to graduate from high school and later college, where he developed his interest in writing, history, and photography. He loved to take us to go fishing and on road trips. He was always hands on and willing to volunteer his time to help us, and at the front of the line to photograph our accomplishments, dedicated countless hours to driving us to and from after-school activities, and stayed up many nights helping us with our homework.

Besides the emotional pain and distress of losing our Dad, our family lost the backbone and breadwinner. We have created this GoFundMe campaign to alleviate some of our mom’s financial hardships by helping to raise money for our college education. All funds raised will be used exclusively to pay for education related expenses and college tuition.

Our Dad’s greatest dream was to send us to college. He expected us to live lives with purpose and meaning. He taught us love and respect by caring for our grandparents in our household. He was the best example of being humble and generous. We appreciate any support you may be able to provide. We promise to study and work hard to make our father proud.

Daddy, you will be missed so much, but your legacy will be carried on.
