Tad was well known as Command Sergeant Major Tadina. His service during the Vietnam era was one of extreme valor and service as a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP), 74th Infantry Detachment Long Range Patrol (LRP) and Company N (Ranger), 75th Infantry. While serving as a team leader for five years, he never had one of his team killed. This was accomplished at the risk of his own life during the many times he was cited for valor (2 Silver Stars), 10 Bronze Stars (7 with V Device), 4 Army Commendation Medals (2 with V Device) and three Purple Hearts. His service during the Vietnam War for over 5 years straight in the above mentioned units make him the longest continuously serving Ranger during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. His service before the Vietnam War in the Dominican Republic and during Desert Storm reflect great credit upon himself, the units he served in and the United States Army. After retiring in 1992, Tad continued to serve this country in the security field in country and overseas until he fully retired in 2013. In 1995, Tad was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame at Fort Benning.
Tad is survived by his wife, Karen S. Tadina; two daughters, Catherine Poeschl and Alamea Banther; four sons, Sterling Tadina , Benjamin Wallace, Dennis Tadina, and Ryan Dalberg; two sisters, Blossom Sullivan and Mailey Fraizer; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Rogers & Breece Funeral Home on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 11 AM. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 – 10:45 AM, and all are welcome to attend.
