Memorial for Juyoung An

Dear friends, family, and community,

I am writing to you today to let you know about the untimely loss of Juyoung An. She left us prematurely at age 41 due to a sudden illness that progressed quickly. Juyoung and her husband Murat Gokhan Mugan met in Colorado in 2006 and married in 2013. They traveled to many places together and shared many memorable experiences. They prioritized spending quality time together, sitting together, and discussing their lives, plans, and work daily. They laughed together and shared many aspects of their respective traditions with each other.

Juyoung was 28 weeks pregnant when this tragedy took place. In her last moments, she leaves us with a precious gift, her son, AJ - Aiden Jihun Mugan. AJ will remain in the hospital for the next 7-8 weeks as he was born prematurely. Murat held his son AJ for the first time on Sunday, five days after his birth. Though this magical moment brought a smile to his face, it is a confusing time to feel joy. But he has a new purpose, and that is his son. He is determined to stay strong for his son and be there as AJ fights through the next couple of months. Juyoung is also survived by her father Kee Seong An, mother Kang Hong Ki, and sister Sun Young An, who are devastated and inconsolable by the loss of their beautiful daughter and sister.
