Memorial for Shannie Pickett
As I try to come to terms with the fact that I am creating a GoFundMe for my mother, Shannie Pickett, she was taken from us the morning of Monday, February 15th, 2021 during the snowstorm Uri in Austin, Texas.
This GoFundMe is to help pay for her memorial cost and other payments, such as her mortgage, lawyer fees, and more that I am unable to pay for...
As many of you have heard the news and for those that do not know, it’s with a heavy heart that I inform you that my mother, Shannie Lou Pickett, 67, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Saturday, February 13th, 2021. Shannie was born on December 21st, 1953 to J.G. (John George) Pickett and Marion Grace Harrison (Homan). Shannie was born in Gainesville, Texas, where years later she attended the University of Texas to learn about bookkeeping. She later moved for her career working in the hotel industry and rising the corporate ladder at the Wyndham Hotels in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Once pregnant with twins, she moved to San Antonio, Texas to be with her mother, then both moved to Austin, Texas where she began her new life and built a small-business, A-Quick Bookkeeping Service in 1991. Shane had two children. Zane Travis Pickett and Taylor Shane Pickett.
Shane Pickett will always be remembered for her kind heart and for being one of the most caring individuals you would have ever met. Her laugh could fill an entire room along with the amazing smells from the many dishes she enjoyed cooking as she loved hosting and spending time with others as much as she could. She loved hosting various parties and get-togethers for her friends, family, and neighbors throughout the years. She inspired to be a super-mom by being head of the PTA, Booster Club, and every organization to be close to her children. Her intelligence, ambition, comfort, and love are traits that I hope to match one day. There is just too much about this amazing and strong woman that I would like to share that I hope to live up to one day. For those closest to her, we all know her strong personality but we always knew it came from a place of love and care. My mother always saw the good in everyone, no matter what background they came from, especially when others refused to give them a chance. If she saw a light in you and you were lucky enough to be put under her wing, she would do her best to guide you, show you that you aren’t alone and most importantly, that you are loved, and from there on she would try to be a mother for you. She did her absolute best to comfort those around her when they struggled even if it sometimes was with tough love. She raised two children by herself and did a remarkable job that I will forever be thankful and gracious for. She is proceeded in death by her father, J.G. Pickett, and her beloved mother, Marion Grace Harrison (Homan).
She is survived by her children, Zane Pickett of Austin, Texas, Taylor Pickett of Corpus Christi, Texas. Her grandchildren, Brianna Herrera-Pickett, Xhavier Urbina-Pickett, and Landon Ash Pickett, and Brianna’s stepmother, Elena Santiago, and father, Leo Herrera. Her half-sister Lana Pickett Arrott, her children, Cam Arrott of Lubbock, Texas & Dylan Arrott of College Station, Texas. Along with her many cousins, Noralynn Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Lacey Johnson, Wayne Temple, Marty Martin, Diane Boots Bryant, the Harrison family in Tennessee, and many more.
A memorial service is pending as I figure out more information regarding the COVID regulations within the next month or more. For the family members, there will be a viewing within the next couple of weeks for those who are able to attend.
I would like to thank All Faith Cremation and Funeral Services and everyone that has reached out to me during this very difficult and heartbreaking time. She cared about each and every one of you. I will keep you all updated. Please feel free to message or call me anytime, everyone please be safe and stay warm!
I will miss you and I will see you again one day,
-Your son, Zane
