Memorial for Wanda Robinson Cole
I’m Wanda Robinson Coles nephew.
She was like a second mother to me.
Growing up right down the street I was always with her and my cousins who were like my brothers and sisters.
Wanda was a force of life.
She devoted so much of her time to her family.
Having had four children of her own then legally adopting four of her brothers children the house was pretty full with eight kids.
Still I was always there so she would tell people I was her ninth child.
Recently Wanda had noticed certain things were off with her body. She was the type of woman to always put others needs before her own and her health was no different. Prior to Wanda discovering she was sick she was dealing with the cancer recovery of her husband and then her youngest daughter was diagnosed with covid and in icu for weeks and that was about the time that Wanda began to know she would soon be dealing with serious life issues concerning her own body.
Shortly after discovering several masses in her body and being told it was in fact cancer and not sure to the extent of where it started and where it stopped she began the process of trying to figure out her treatment options. There were so many roadblocks due to the fact that she didn’t have health insurance at the time and things seemed to just be getting worse and it became to look hopeless.
Months later by some miraculous event she was finally able to begin discussions of starting chemotherapy and radiation treatments here at a local hospital.
Sadly she only was able to receive her first round of chemotherapy, this made her have virtually zero white blood cells.
This was not a good thing since she would soon get sepsis which is a serious infection to a healthy person much less someone with a compromised immune system from chemo.
She was hospitalized last week on Thursday the 13th of May just five days after her 60th birthday. She was monitored for a couple days and then taken into ICU Saturday the 15th.
That was the last day her children saw her awake. She was then put on life support to help her body perform the necessary functions that it was no longer able to do. Her blood pressure was dangerously low and her heart rate was extremely high. The doctors spent the next couple days trying to normalize her heart and tried every possible thing they could do for her but her body was not strong enough to fight the infection and everything began to slowly shut down. After visiting her yesterday morning and having the doctors explain quality of life and what our nexts steps should be if the medications and interventions continued to fail the family came home to pray and hope for a miracle. We were notified by her doctor that she wascoding again and that she might not make it through the night. Knowing this we all decided to get there as soon as we could.
Sadly she passed away around 7:30pm Tuesday night as we were all headed there.
Almost all of her immediate family that lives locally was able to say their goodbyes to her lastnight.
This is truly a nightmare to imagine someone you love and someone who so many people relied on not being there anymore. It is unreal andwe are still grasping to comprehend what is happening.
The family is already dealing with mountains of medical bills and bills in general that need to be taken care of but sadly Wanda did not have burial insurance. Her wishes are to be cremated which we are honoring for her but the family would not allow her passing to go by without aservice or memorial. We will all be putting together whatever we can to make sure this happens big or small it will happen but if there are any out there that would like to show their support for this wonderful woman and her family this is a way that you can help honor her memory and help her children with something that they would be eternally grateful for.
This gofundme is for her memorial service andanything extra that the family might need in this extremely dark and sad time.
Thank you.
