I am writing to you today to let you know about the tragic loss of Ian Martin. Ian passed away suddenly in a car accident on July, 28th, 2020 while he was on-shore near Petersburg, Alaska.

Ian Martin (29), a U.S. Navy Veteran, spent the last 4 summer seasons working as an Alaska commercial fisherman with his step-father, Dean Haltiner. He worked as the boats skiff man and engineer for the purse seine season. The crew had come ashore for the day when the accident occurred on Mitkof Highway. Ian had spent the previous year working as an Emergency Medical Technician in the Austin, TX area. He obtained his Paramedic certification while living in Texas and positively impacted coworkers, hospital staff, and patients. Ian was a well respected and profoundly loved member of the EMS community.

After completing this fishing season, Ian had planned a hunting trip out of Fairbanks with his brother Brett Evens and then head to Utah to interview with the 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne).

Ian Martin leaves behind his loving family; Nicole(Emmenegger) & Dean Haltiner, Jim Martin & Cindy Westfall; Keely Martin & Matt Brix, Emilie & Finley Blair; Brett & Haley Evens, Isla & Eric; Kathy Emmenegger, Jill & Jim Engell, Kelly & Jack; Emma & Casey Gates; Jim Kelly and Royann Martin.
Ian also leaves behind many friends who loved him dearly. Ian made an incalculable and positive difference in and on so many lives with his friendship, loyalty, and unique sense of humor.

This campaign was set up by a small group of friends in response to the many requests from those looking to help Ian's family. The money raised through this page will help alleviate the financial burden left by his sudden passing and provide support to his loving family, who are still grieving this tremendous loss.
