Hi. My name is Kierra and on behalf of my family, I am fundraising for my uncle, Jeff Layton. On Sunday evening, June 25, my family was unexpectedly faced with a goodbye we never anticipated so soon. A son, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away and became a reminder of one of my favorite Johnny Cash lines above, one of his favorite artists. My Uncle Jeff was like a storm. He was the best kind of chaos that could disrupt the quietness of any room with his thunderous voice and sense of humor. And he was also like the rain that relieved the drought. He was the kind of person who showed up for others, even if that meant setting aside his own troubles because as he and Johnny Cash would probably say “I’m not the cryin’ or the whinnin’ kind.” Our storm has passed, and our family is left to grieve and plan for Jeff’s services. We want nothing more than to honor our river rat, spontaneous (and a little crazy), and family-loving Jeffrey Wayne with the appropriate celebration of life. Because this was unexpected, Jeff’s daughters (Shana, Angela, Brittany), were not financially prepared to cover the service he deserves.
