Memorial fund for Joseph Filey
Donation protected
On November 2, 2019 we lost a great friend and my "brother" Joseph W Filey. 5-12-1969 to 11-2-2019.
Joe went in for a procedure on October 25, 2019 for fluids being built up on his pancreas from a cyst. The doctors put in a stint to help the fluids drain. Joe passed on November 2, 2019 from a gastrointestinal bleed.
Joe and I have been best friends for about 28 years. We never talked much about his family let alone any names; he was a very private person. When I found out that he died I immediately wanted to find any family and tell them the news. Joe's Mom had passed December of 2017. His estranged Dad had also passed around the same time. I had no other knowledge of any other living family. Since Joe's death I have found a aunt and a half aunt.
Joe never told me that he had me listed as his emergency contact for over 19 years. When I found out I told him "I'm honored and won't let you down".
Joe, I think always felt like he was alone. My wife and I made him a part of our Family and life's and we are better people for doing so. Joe was always smiling or laughing when we were together.
My wife and I have, with no reservations, taken on and paid all of Joe's final expenses. We have done our best to hopefully honor Joe in death as we did during his life. Any money raised will go to help us pay for these expenses (cost of cremation, urns, travel expenses to get Joe and his belongings). All other money will be donated to one of Joe's causes in remembrance. Diabetes foundation, saving the oceans, and police foundations were just a few of Joe's passions.
"Our father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come , thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us thy daily bread and forgive us for our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. AMEN."
