Memorial Fund - Jacqueline Nelson Our Fallen Angel
Donation protected
My name is Jamil Nelson, and it is with great sadness that my sister, Tyffanie Nelson, and I create this GoFundMe account for our beloved mother, Jacqueline D. Nelson, who unexpectedly and tragically passed away early Thursday morning, on May 6th.
Our family is collectively at a loss for words as we try to process our mothers passing with extremely heavy hearts and minds. Jacqueline was indeed a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, educator, neighbor, and friend who touched the lives of everyone around her. Family remained a consistent priority of her life, she viewed her kids and her three grandchildren as the greatest gifts God provided to her. Kyleigh, Conner, and Ava were her bundles of joy and she gave them anything and everything they ever wanted.
For her 60th birthday, these adorable blessings suggested the family celebrate at the beautiful home she worked so hard to obtain, with a cake, their company, and their love for her. This simple gesture captured our mother’s essence, as she was often pleased by the simple joys of life.
A proud and loving teacher, our mother devoted 18 years of service to the Jersey City Board of Education by teaching inclusion students at Dickinson High School. One of her mantras in life was that “each one, teach one” because as many of us know all too well “knowledge is power”. Her passion stemmed from her personal experience with her brother who dealt with physical and mental challenges himself.
Her family, friends, students and colleagues always marveled at her acute vulnerability and openness with others. Our mom listened to everyone’s story, accepting their experiences at face value and never judging a book by its cover because, as she would often say, “there were always more pages that can be added to change the sum of anyone’s story.”
Always willing to offer comfort and open her doors to those who had no place to call home our mom was a giving person to her core. She often fed those in need of a meal, or was a discerning ear for those who had no one to listen. Truly, she was our Superwoman! Extremely reliable and dependable, our mom often devoted the majority of her time outside of formal teaching, to informing and enlightening those around her about investment opportunities, providing stock suggestions and real estate recommendations to those willing to listen. She eventually created a financial literacy group at Dickinson High School, which was a proud achievement indeed.
We are devastated by her loss and admittedly we were unprepared for the high cost of funeral services at this moment. We want to give our mother, Jacqueline D. Nelson the celebration she deserves by honoring her memory and 60 years of vibrant living. This ceremony is an opportunity for those of us who loved her to say our last farewells. We are asking for donations to help cover her funeral costs and to start a scholarship fund in her name for the future generations of youth to whom she hoped her hard work might provide a better pathway in life. Our goal is to raise $25,000 ($20,000 for the funeral costs and $5,000 for the scholarship fund) to ensure that we can make our mother’s transition ceremony on May 22, 2021, and scholastic wishes a reality.
We thank everyone in advance for taking the time to read our mom’s story and for your generosity, love, prayers, and kind words. Please share and continue to re-share to all those around you. Please continue to pray that my family and I continue to gain peace, comfort, and understanding following our sudden loss. We hope to grow stronger together as we close out this chapter on the life and memory of Jacqueline D. Nelson.
