In Memory of RUHS Teacher Judy Harding
Donation protected
English teacher Judy Harding has closed the final chapter on her Book of Life. This campaign, originally created last January to raise funds for her caregiving costs, has now been repurposed to honor her life and memory. Please continue reading to learn how.
Mom died peacefully in the early evening of 4 December 2020, following 14 months of hospice care in her home.
We are so happy we were able to keep her at home until the end, and so grateful for the generosity that made that possible. Your support, both financial and emotional, enabled us to honor her desire to live out her days in the house she loved so much:

Mom did not want a traditional memorial service, and instead asked that we hold a "Celebration of Life," where people can gather to share their Judy stories and memories. Due to the COVID pandemic, this celebration will be postponed to a future date, when in-person, multi-household gatherings are once again safe. In the meantime, however, we wanted to provide a way for people to honor her memory. If you would like to pay tribute to Judy Harding and the impact she had on so many, please consider donating here to any or all of the three following causes:
1) Vermont Public Radio (VPR)
Mom was an avid VPR fan, and supported its programming through monthly donations going back 30+ years. We would like to make one final, large donation to VPR in her name. All VPR-designated donations made through this site in the next 90 days will be consolidated and sent to Vermont Public Radio by the end of March.
2) Randolph Area Food Shelf (RAFS)
Mom also made regular financial contributions to her local food bank. In this time of virus-related income loss and increased food insecurity, we know she would have wanted to provide extra assistance. All RAFS-designated donations made here in the next 90 days will be sent to the food bank as a lump sum, in Mom's name.
3) Post-Death Expenses (FA, for family assistance)
There are many expenses which come up in the wake of a loved one's passing (memorial engraving, estate-filing fees, packing/transporting/shipping household contents), and unfortunately Mom's extended in-home care drained her remaining resources. If you would like to assist with these one-time expenses, any FA-designated donations will be directly deposited into Mom's bank account.
Donors, please use the "Contact" button to the right of the campaign Organizer's name (Paige Harding) to let us know where you'd like your donation to go. Send a message with "VPR" for Vermont Public Radio, "RAFS" for Randolph Area Food Shelf, or "FA" for family assistance with post-death expenses. If you do not indicate a recipient, your contribution will be evenly split among all 3 causes.
Thank you for honoring our mom's memory, and please share the campaign link with anyone else who might wish to do so! We will update this campaign page when we have further information about her "Celebration of Life" service.
And finally, please scroll down for a series of photos from Judy's journey through life. It was a good one.

We never knew Mom as a baby, toddler, or pony-rider, but the smile is very familiar!

Judy in her early school years, when her lifelong love of learning began.

Teenage Judy turned a clear-eyed gaze on the world, embracing new people and experiences.

Mom dressed for her wedding, aided by her bridesmaids (older sisters Nancy & Barbara).

If you ever sat in a classroom with our mom, you undoubtedly saw her apply lipstick! Here she is in her early years of marriage and motherhood.

This characteristic Judy expression shows the pleasure she got out of everyday life.

Mom helped Paige blow out the candle on her very first birthday cake. This tribute site is our candle to her.

Mrs. Harding at her desk in Room 7 at RUHS. A lot of you probably remember her this way!

This is the only formal portrait ever taken of Mom with all of her daughters. From left, Paige, Judy, Jennifer, Tacy, and Hilary.

A reunion for the Barrett sisters: Nancy, Barbara, & Judy. They are now all together once again.

Mom loved dogs, and in her last months enjoyed visits from furry friends. This smiling golden retriever belongs to one of Mom's former students, and we know it was a very happy afternoon for all of them.
