Memorial Service costs for Matt Gaffney

It is with great sadness that we announce Matt Gaffney lost his battle to cancer on April 2nd, 2024. He went peacefully at home which is what he would have wanted. He had a big personality with an even bigger heart. He had been a resident of San Juan Capistrano since 1956 attending Old Mission School, where later his daughter Laura attended. He was part of the American Legion, Historical

Society, Open Space Commission and City Traffic & Planning Commission. One of his biggest accomplishments was the development of Reata Park on Ortega Highway, the passage of measure Y and the open space measure. For anyone that knew Matt, he was Mr. San Juan. He loved his town! Before his passing, he was named Grand Marshall for the 2024 Swallows Day Parade where he was able to wave to spectators alongside his daughter Laura (husband Matt) his 2 grandkids Jackson and Kennedy and his partner Karen Smiley. Through the trials and tribulations of his cancer battle, his one dying wish was to make it to Swallows Day and he did just that!

The void created by Matt’s passing is immeasurable, and his daughter Laura & family are unprepared for the financial hardships associated with organizing a fitting memorial service to honor his memory. I humbly reach out for your support in giving Matt Gaffney the memorial he deserves. Your contributions will not only enable his family to come together to celebrate his life and but also bid their final farewells.
