Memory and Meaning: Help Complete the Monument in Ede

Jenny and Hanna Leijdesdorff were small children when they went into hiding in The Netherlands during the Holocaust because they were Jewish. Jenny and Hanna survived the war, but their parents did not. Isaac and Sarina Leijdesdorff were arrested in The Netherlands, where they were hiding separately from their daughters in the town of Ede. From Ede, they were deported through Utrecht to the Westerbork Transit Camp, then on to Sobibor Extermination Camp where they were murdered upon arrival on 23 July 1943. They were 33 and 34 years old.

There is an opportunity to remember Isaac and Sarina with a new memorial that could be finished within Jenny and Hanna's lifetime. Read on to learn how to help!

Holocaust Remembrance 26 January 2025

On Sunday, 26 January 2025, a commemoration to the Jews who were arrested in Ede and deported to extermination camps will be held at the Jewish monument in Memorial Park.

RENOVATION OF THE MONUMENT

There are currently 50 names on the Jewish monument. These are the names that were known at the time of the monument's erection in 2012. Archival research by the municipality of Ede in recent years has shown that many more people were arrested in Ede. In order to do justice to these people, the Jewish Monument Ede Foundation, in close cooperation with the municipality of Ede, has decided to adapt the monument. On top of the current monument, there will be a new cover plate with all 183 names...

** All funds collected though this fundraising effort up to $560 USD will be donated to the nonprofit organizing the monument renovation. **

** Any overage collected through this fundraising effort will be donated to The Nova Tribe (also a nonprofit) to provide healing support for survivors of October 7th. **
