Memory Care for Mac's Dementia
Donation protected
Hello friends, and friends of friends, My name is Dani and I’m reaching out to you all to rally around my good friend Mac.
Mac and I worked together at Osage Beach about 7 or 8 years ago. Even though he is old enough to be my grandfather, he was the bright spot in my day whenever we had the same shift. He is a big reason I have the life I have today. It’s my pleasure to speak of him often with my husband and share Mac’s stories with my boys. Now it’s my turn to help him.
Mac has severe dementia and is in a memory care home that seems nice, but it’s expensive and quiet. He’s the only man in this small facility of women, many being non-verbal. His family is dealing with the costs now but that won’t last. They’ll need help paying back the money they’ve borrowed. He’s been told he might get to go to a livelier home that is way less expensive. One that has three times the people and they’re all veterans. I’m hoping that at least some are chatterboxes like he is.
Mac retired from the Navy and moved to Missouri. I wouldn’t believe he’s done all the things he has except he’s got the stories to go along with those things. He and his wife were foster parents to five kids, and other kids that needed a place to stay. I’m sure with Mac’s positivity and kindness, his house was a safe place to be.
He taught school, volunteered as a fireman, drove a school bus, repaired a lot of folk’s boats at a marina the Lake of the Ozarks, and later, helped them outfit their boats. He told stories of working at age 11 delivering milk to people’s doors. He finally quit working at 84. I’ve heard he was a member of the Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge and the VFW.
After helping so many I’m now reaching out to others to help me help Mac. I’m hoping you can share what you can. And if you can’t, please share this GoFundMe with as many as you can. And ask them to share. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
