Memory of Deputy Tim Tellez

Donation protected
To my Whitley Heights neighbors,

We are establishing this “Go Fund Me Page” for Deputy Timothy Tellez who left us during Christmas due to complications from COVID-19, leaving behind his wife Vanessa and his one-year old son Noah.

He was a great partner in moving our goals forward and listening to the community for many years.

The neighborhood was introduced to Deputy Timothy Tellez at the Hollywood Heritage Barn Safety Town Hall after the 2016 Homicide of Whitley Heights resident Richard Hong. Deputy Tellez along with his Special Problems Team heard the community’s concern and went from patrolling the park (Hollywood Bowl picnic groves) once every six months to once a week. They saw the need. Their presence quickly restored safety to the picnic groves. Deputy Tellez and Team consistently maintained it.

Your neighbor,

Todd Manion

Take a minute to reflect:

Deputy Tellez was instrumental in enabling many of the community events that we all enjoyed: The kids’ “Shakespeare in Our Park” neighborhood event, the magical “Puppets in Our Park” show with Bob Baker Marionettes, coffee & donuts to “Clean up Our Park”  from gang-graffiti that covered picnic tables and trees. The Hollywood Bowl’s picnic groves behind the Hollywood Heritage Barn have never felt safer. Neighbors can stroll through the Park with gratitude to Deputy Tellez and his Special Problems Team. The neighbors of Whitley Heights are honored to have known this dedicated public servant who loved serving LASD.

“Deputy Tim Tellez and his Special Problems Team were here so much they even cleaned up CALTRANS land. One time I brought muffins and coffee to the Special Problems Team Deputies. Deputy Tellez invited me to climb the hill with him, over the Odin overpass, and down Fairfield after the last trespasser was escorted to street level by Deputy Rico. It was an adventure in completely wrong footwear.”

“Tim spoke about Whitley Heights and how much he enjoyed working with the neighbors.”

“Thank you.  We have all been tested and came back negative, so far.  We also have been issued masks and other PPE.  We were out there working today.  We are making the most of our last couple of months.  The Sheriff is making deep cuts and Parks Bureau is one of the units being cut.  It was a pleasure working your area and meeting you and all your neighbors.  The team and I will miss working out there.  Thank you for all you support.  If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask.  We have plenty of masks and gloves to spare.”

   -   Deputy Timothy Tellez’s last email to Whitley Heights in late July 2020

“Today, we @LASDHQ  received devastating news regarding one of our own. Deputy Timothy Tellez, a 20 year veteran, assigned to @ParksLASD  succumbed to his battle with COVID-19. Please keep his family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers, he will be deeply missed. #COVID19 . “
