Men's IU Hockey to go to National Championships

The men's Ice Hockey team at Indiana University is going back to the ACHA National Championships this year. The Hoosiers clinched their spot after defeating the Ohio University Bobcats and the University of Louisville Cardinals in the Regional tournament.

Spring Break begins on March 10th, and the team will fly to Boston on March 15th. Their quest for hardware starts on March 17th, followed by two more round-robin games on March 18th and 19th. The Hoosiers plan to stay five nights in a hotel in Boston and use a bus for transportation during their stay. In addition, they’ll order or cater team meals from various local restaurants and do film and other team activities to stay focused. Overall, we want to make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the players and coaching staff.

Led by Head Coach Andrew Weiss, the team has picked up the rhythm and culture we started last year. Weiss is joined by Associate Head Coach Matt Grainda, who played on the 2008 Hoosiers' team, which before last year was the last team to make it to Nationals. Weiss has led the team on a 10-game win streak heading into nationals, with Grainda, Assistant Coaches Ricky Miles, Cole Trueblood, and Ryan Bergman, and our strength and conditioning coaches: John Gangnon and Bryce Campbell.

The team is made up of an enormous amount of talent, heart, and commitment. Their relentless forecheck, excellent puck movement, standout goaltending, and team chemistry have been significant factors in their success.

Combined with great goaltending and offensive firepower, with only four seniors, the team is young and eagerly waiting for a chance at their first National Title in school history.

The team has created this page to support their trip to the National Championships this year. The players cannot wait for this five-day opportunity and are hungry for a National Title. We are asking you to donate whatever you can to help cover the hotel, bus, food, and practice expenses while making this a memorable experience for the entire Indiana hockey family!
