Menstrual Hygiene during COVID-19 Pandemic
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Sarah Khan and I am a graduate student studying Reproductive Sciences & Medicine at Northwestern University. Help us raise funds to provide menstrual products to underprivileged women in Karachi, Pakistan and Chicago, Illinois!
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, many women around the world are facing increasing barriers in obtaining the essential items they need to maintain their reproductive and sexual health. During lockdowns and curfews, women and girls from impoverished areas find it difficult to gather these items so that they can safely and effectively manage their menstrual cycles and overall reproductive/sexual health. I am collecting funds to send to two non for profit organizations. The funds gathered will be evenly split evenly between these two organizations.
1. HER Pakistan: During this pandemic, daily wage workers are struggling to purchase food and heath related items. In the time of crisis, menstrual needs are often neglected and girls and women have to menstruate without hygienic products. Pads will be included in the ration packages being delivered to slums surrounding Karachi. As of April 2nd, 100 periods were taken care of in the Gulzar-e-Hijri slums in Karachi.
I am working with Sana Lokhandwala, Co-founder of HER Pakistan. She will personally ensure the funds are used immediately to purchase the pads and distribute them in the surrounding areas of Karachi.
2. Chicago Period Project: 25% of menstruating people in the United States have asserted that they rely on educational institutions, and local businesses to provide period products each month. With the closure of these institutions, women are not able to gather the period products they need. Chicago Period Project distributes pads, tampons, underwear, and other critical menstruation supplies to local shelters, schools, and crisis support networks.
"The Chicago Period Project empowers homeless and in-need people to experience their periods with dignity"

Thank you so much!
"Period poverty is the lack of access to sanitary products, menstrual hygiene education, toilets, hand washing facilities, and waste management. During a crisis, it is especially difficult for people to manage their periods safely and with dignity. We must break harmful taboos about menstruation, provide education, and promote safe sanitation."
