Mental Health is Everyone Business

Dear Reader,

My name is Tony Commisso and I would like to kindly ask you for a few minutes of your time to read this message and consider how even a simple gesture on your part can one day make a big difference in someone’s life.

The sad truth is every day in Canada alone, there are 200 suicide attempts and unfortunately, 12 of those carry through to completion. Yes, every day, in a country that much of the world admires for its natural beauty, friendliness and simplicity. But this message is not specific to the growing suicide rate. It is about addressing the effects of mental health before they progress to something worse and my sincere intention and commitment to be part of the solution.

Whether you are an individual, group, business or organization, you and the people around you are knowingly or unknowingly affected by the interplay of social and emotional disturbances many people silently face on a daily basis. Everyone has a story and very few stories, if any, play out without affecting others. My mission is to heal and prevent, the emotional discord that sabotages our lives, our relationships, our jobs, freedom and our sense of peace.

Although I have been formally trained as an addiction counselor for families and youth, I bring to the field of mental health a deeper understanding and natural empathy that allows me to discern why people do what they do. My strength comes from my passion and intention to help people see the “why” from their own perspective, empowering them to help themselves.

It is with intent that I operate as a sole proprietor. My goal is to self-manage my services without the influence of the typical restrictions and limitations that put people in a box where they are not seen for who they are but rather an image of someone we expect them to be. It is because of my passion that I am committed to go beyond the limits of the theoretical text-book criteria. I not only intend to meet people where they’re at, I make sure they clearly understand where that is.

The aim is to be financially self-supporting while offering affordable counselling sessions. In any case, I do not intend to turn anyone away if I can help it. If you feel you are in a position to support the later with a donation, it would be gratefully appreciated.
