Mercedes and Joseph

Dear Friends and Family,

On August 6th, Joseph Cortez was struck by multiple vehicles and died on the scene while crossing the road in Oklahoma City. This tragic news was made known to the Cortez family days later on the night that Angela Cortez’ (mother) husband Jerrad died from a post-surgery infection that took his life. Losing both of them was tragic and heartbreaking.

The following week a funeral was held for Jerrad, and his body was laid to rest by the Seminole native tribe on sacred family land.

Attending her stepfather’s funeral from Colorado, Mercedes Martinez visited Oklahoma City to be present and to grieve both her stepfather’s and her brother’s passing. Unfortunately, the day after the funeral, Mercedes was ejected from a vehicle in a tragic car accident that left her hospitalized at OU Medical in Oklahoma City. Due to the severe brain and cranial injuries, Mercedes Cortez passed away in the presence of her younger Brother, Jesus Martinez and her Mother, Angela Cortez, on September 1st, 2022, at 10:28 PM. She is survived by her two children, Jaden and Alex, mother, Angela Cortez, and brother, Jesus Martinez.

As we pray for the comfort of this grieving family, I am asking for financial support to help them pay for funeral costs. They have had to pull out several loans and max out credit cards to pay for immediate expenses, yet they still need financial help to pay for more. The costs of funeral and cremation have even affected their ability to pay rent, buy gas and groceries.

Anything to help this family in need will be a mighty blessing.
