Mercedes’ Mobility Mission

Mercedes was rescued from a Bangkok food market.  Her owner (a food market vendor) passed away and the other vendors decided to care for her.  But they cared for her a little too much, essentially feeding her nearly to death.

All day long she walked around and got snacks until the day she couldn’t walk more than 5 steps at a time because she had gained so much weight.  For months customers from the market brought her food while she camped out in front of a shop.

After a year in the care of an amazing woman she has lost loads of weight but is still burdened by all the extra skin.  She needs surgery to help get her from her current Dodge Caravan body to the luxury Mercedes body she once knew.  Not for the looks (I mean look at that sweet face) but so she can have a happy dog’s life and play/run without risk to her joints and heart.  She has several lbs of skin that needs removing. 

Lucky for her a wonderful vet in Ottawa agreed to help get rid of all the extra skin so she can have her mobility back. We just need help raising the funds to get her here and give her the medical care she needs.

My name is Geneviève Smith and I'm volunteering my time to help coordinate her care and raise money for her surgery.  I am not affiliated with a shelter or rescue organization; I am doing this independently on my own time.  I am also helping to find her find a forever home (though she's quite spoiled with her current foster family).  My relationship to Mercedes is simply that I'm helping to change her life, taking over from the amazing woman in Thailand who looked after her there.  Kristen, an amazing dog rescuer in the US who "recruited" me to help Mercedes is right when she says it takes a village to save a dog :)

The funds will only be spent on expenses directly tied to her travel to Canada and her care, such as veterinary bills and any supplies/medication that we can't have donated.  To-date the vet care has not cost anything because the vet is giving us his time;  however once procedures are required there are costs).    Invoices will be posted in updates to assure all donors and potential donors of the integrity of our fundraising and the sincerity in our intentions.
