Mercy Ships- Guinea, West Africa
Donation protected
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
It is with great joy to let you know I will be volunteering with Mercy Ships in Guinea, West Africa. Mercy Ships is a non-profit Christian organization that provides mobile healthcare. Being a large ship, Mercy Ships is able to move along the coastline of Africa and develop relationships with the communities they serve. They provide free medical care and even surgeries. Service on board Mercy Ships is 100% volunteer basis. I will be working as a ward nurse onboard the Africa Mercy Ship. I will be serving in the community of Guinea from August 26th for 4 months, returning December 29th, 2018.
From a young age, I have had a calling on my heart “to go” and “to serve.” Isaiah 61:1 reads, “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” I know how the Lord has healed my heart, released me from being a captive to the strongholds in my life, and empowered me to overcome obstacles. This in turn has prepared my heart for service. Many times I have wanted “to go” and “to serve,” but God said, “Not yet, be patient and wait.”
After a planned mission trip to the Dominican Republic was cancelled due to Hurricane Maria, two girls and I used our weather waiver to take a trip to the Grand Canyon. We spent our last day at the aquariums at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. It was just a few days before that horrible shooting in Las Vegas on October 1st. That October, I felt His calling, saying “Okay Sarah, I’ve got you, it’s time.” I had been praying to serve with Mercy Ships for 3 years. Having peace about God’s timing I moved forward with the decision to apply.
I’ve had the great privilege of going on several short-term mission trips. With each experience, I was humbled by the willingness of the people to open their heart and many times their home to a stranger. In Guinea, I will show people the love, kindness, and joy that can only be explained by the unconditional love I receive from Jesus. As a ward nurse, I will also provide medical care for the people.
I am asking for prayers for the Mercy Ship crew and for my time on board. Please pray for safe travels to Africa and that I will raise the needed funding. I am also asking for prayers for God to give me guidance, strength and peace as I work and prepare for this opportunity to serve.
I am also asking for financial support to serve with Mercy Ships. For the 4 months I will be serving, I will have travel costs, crew fees, and insurance as well as daily living expenses. I will also be moving out of my apartment and placing my things in storage.
For this Go Fund Me page, the support raised will go towards the cost of storage and travel insurance as well as daily living expenses in country including traveling & transportation.
Raising funds through Mercy Ships, I am unable to direct support and donations in these areas which is why I am creating this Go Fund Me Individually.
However, if you feel lead to give directly through Mercy Ships, support will go towards monthly "Crew fees" and contribute to flight/transportation cost to and from the Africa Mercy Ship.

I invite you to be a part of this journey and my service to others in Guinea with your prayers, support, and donations. Thank you for your consideration, however you feel lead to give. With each patient I encounter, their medical treatment and smiles will reflect your kindness and generosity.
