Join Me on a Radiant Journey of Compassion aboard the Global Mercy!
Hello, dear friends and compassionate souls,
I'm thrilled to invite you to be a part of an incredible mission, one that combines my passion for radiography with my desire to make a profound difference in the lives of those less fortunate. My name is Maddie, and I'm embarking on a transformative journey aboard the Global Mercy to Sierra Leone.
Who am I?
I am a dedicated radiographer, and for years, I have used my skills to provide exceptional care to patients in need. But there has always been a calling within me, a yearning to do more, to touch the lives of those who have been marginalized and underserved. Now, the opportunity has arrived to answer that call, and I need your support to make it a reality.
The Global Mercy: A Beacon of Hope
The Global Mercy is not just a ship; it is a beacon of hope. In a world where 70% of the population is situated coastally, Mercy Ships travels from port to port providing free medical aid and education to the struggling nations of the world. These vessels are fully equipped “mobile” hospitals, with operating theatres, intensive care units, outpatient clinics, pharmacies, radiology departments and more! Onboard, a team of dedicated medical professionals work tirelessly to bring healing and hope to those who need it most. From life-changing surgeries to vital medical care, we offer it all, free of charge, to individuals who would otherwise have no access to these services.
Why Sierra Leone?
Sierra Leone is a country that has faced immense challenges, from a brutal civil war to the ravages of Ebola. Today, its healthcare system is still struggling to recover, and many people lack access to even basic medical care. Currently, within Sierra Leone there are no formally trained radiographers, making my presence there as a clinician and a teacher incredibly special. Sierra Leone relies on neighbouring countries and volunteers to operate their medical imaging machinery and mostly external doctors to interpret the images provided. My role on the ship will be to perform diagnostic imaging, use imaging guidance to assist surgeons in theatre, identify pathology and educate local health care professionals on imaging practices. My hope is to make a lasting impact not only on my patients, but on the future radiology practices within Sierra Leone.
How Can You Help?
I am reaching out to you because I cannot do this alone. The cost of this mission is substantial, and your support can make all the difference. Your generous contribution will go towards funding my travel, insurance and the necessary preparation for this journey. Every dollar you donate brings me one step closer to providing vital medical services to those in desperate need.
Thank you for your generosity, your belief in the power of healing, and your commitment to making the world a better place.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Maddie - Radiographer on a Mission with the Global Mercy
