Meredith is 35. She has Stage IV Breast Cancer.

Born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, Meredith is an extremely hard worker and is always there to help her coworkers, friends, and family in any way she can. Meredith just celebrated 6 years with Wrigglesworth Enterprises INC. Meredith’s role with the company is a GSA Advantage Team Member and Vendor Relations Representative.

Unfortunately, at her young age of 35, Meredith was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Shocked is an understatement. Meredith found her mass and took action by seeing her OBGYN first, and Primary Care PA here in town who scheduled a mammogram, ultrasound, and x-ray. Right before Thanksgiving, Meredith received results from her mammogram, ultrasound, and x-ray stating “...  recent mammogram performed are normal. It is recommended that you have your next routine screening mammogram at age 40.” Because of her persistence when she knew "something wasn't right,” she pursued answers. She made a visit back to see her Primary Care PA to be examined again. The PA wanted to do all she could to help Meredith find answers and referred her to a Breast Surgical Oncology doctor here in town. Meredith went for a biopsy on December 19th, 2019, and less than 24 hours later was diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer. This will be a long journey and she is a single, professional woman who will be able to work little, if at all, for a year or longer. She will need help with medical bills, mortgage, car payment, etc. during this difficult chapter in her life.

On December 23rd, Meredith, alongside her mother and twin sister met with the breast surgical oncology doctor to learn more about her diagnosis. The initial testing and treatment process has been and will be aggressive, and Meredith has already undergone three MRIs, two CT Scans, bone scan, blood work, BRAC2 Gene test, as well as surgery to install a power port to be used to give chemotherapy, take blood, and give medicine into her vein. Chemotherapy started in early January and will go into the end of May.

Right after the holidays, She met with her Cancer Oncology physician team at the Zimmer building at NHRMC. Meredith's bone scan found a spot of cancer that had spread to her humerus bone. She was diagnosed with the finding of a cancer spot on her humerus bone. This finding moved her to Stage IV. She had an MRI and a CT scan to confirm but will have the spot tested at the Cancer Center at Duke Hospital in February. This will determine if the spot on her humerus bone is metastatic breast cancer or if she will be diagnosed with another cancer.

After chemotherapy, she will undergo mastectomy surgery. Then 6 more months of chemo and radiation. Following that she will get reconstructive surgery. This will easily go into 2021.

Meredith’s Team of co-workers wanted to create this GoFundMe webpage to help her get through this extremely difficult year. She has an Army of well-wishers to support her but even with all the love and support, the out of pocket costs for all the procedures and medications that insurance will not cover will become overwhelming.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
